Bring your AB healthcare card and let them know you are a patient at NEST. A physician is always on call to provide your care.

What to expect on AT THE HOSPITAL?
Triage. This is where you check in. You will see it as soon as you exit the elevator on the 3rd floor. When you are asked for your Dr’s name just say ‘NEST’. An RN will assess you and alert the Doctor. One support person is allowed in the triage area.
Labour unit. When it is time, after your assessment in triage, you will be admitted to a labour room. All labour rooms are private with space for you and your support person(s). Up to two support people (no children) are allowed in the labour room.
Each labour room has a private bathroom with a shower
One on one nursing care with a registered nurse. Your nurse will change roughly every 12 hours
After delivery, you will remain in the delivery room until we ensure that you and your baby are doing well. Generally, we will attempt baby’s first feed here and ensure your pain is well controlled and that your bleeding is stable. You are usually in the labour room for a couple of hours after delivery until you will be transferred to a new room on our postpartum unit.
Post Partum Unit. This is where you and your baby will stay until it is time to go home. Two support people are allowed to visit at a time (Due to current Measles outbreak in Alberta there may be changes to visitation as we attempt to decrease risk to our newborns). We encourage fewer visitors on the Post Partum unit so that our new mothers and babies can rest. We try to place all mother’s in a private room. In a private room, one support person is able to stay overnight. If the unit becomes busy, you may need to share with another mother and baby. Two mothers is the maximum in a room. If it is a shared room, partners may not be able to stay over night due to space limitations. We are not able to pre book rooms, due to the unpredictable nature of the labour unit and deliveries.
Please call NEST soon after delivery to book your first new baby visit. We aim to see new mothers and babies within 5-7 days after birth, sooner if there are concerns. We will see you and your baby at our clinic for 6 weeks before transferring your care back to your Family Doctor.
